Isabella Bywater - Set and Costume Designer

Isabella Bywater has worked extensively in both opera and theatre.
Isabella Bywater trained at the Motley School of Design in London. She
designs sets and costumes in the United Kingdom and internationally.

In Britain her opera designs include:
Belshazzar, Il Tabarro, Soeur Angelica, Gianni Schicci, Andrea Chenier, The
Barber of Seville and Nabucco.
The Turn of The Screw, produced by Robert Carsen, Eugene Onegin, produced
by Nicholas Hytner and The Flying Dutchman, produced by Kieth Warner. She
has also designed, The Duenna, La Finta Giardinera, Madama Butterfly,
The Marriage of Figaro, Il Re Pastore, The Elixir of Love, The Emperor of
Atlantis, The Dictator and Snegourochka, all produced by Stephen Medcalf,
and King Arthur, produced by Francisco Negrin.

Abroad, she has designed: The Elixir of Love, for West Australian Opera,
Queensland Opera and Victoria State Opera, Ezio, for the Theatre des Champs
Elysees in Paris, and LaTraviata for Opera Northern Ireland, Belfast, all
produced by Stephen Medcalf. She designed Fidelio, for Opera Northern
Ireland, produced by Matthew Francis, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci,
for Stockholm Royal Opera, produced by Knut Hendriksen and The Masked Ball
for Opera Monte Carlo, produced by Karen Stone.
She has worked frequently with Jonathan Miller, designing Nabucco, for
Zurich Opera, I Puritani, for Bayerischer Staatsoper Munich, Ermione and
Eugene Onegin for Santa Fe Opera, and Don Pasquale for the Teatro Maggio
Musicale di Firenze.

Her plays include the award winning Titus Andronicus for the Royal
Shakespeare Company, directed by DeborahWarner and A Midsummer Nights Dream,
TheTempest, and Twelfth Night, all directedby Deborah Paige. At Salisbury
Playhouse she designed A Dolls House, All My Sons, and School for Wives. For
Sheffield Crucible she designed A Wind in the Willows and at Nottingham
Playhouse, Of Mice and Men, directed by Dominic Cooke. For Chichester she
designed Hedda Gabler starring Harriet Walter.

She is currently designing sets and costumes for Die Entfuhrung aus dem
Serail, for Zurich Opera, Falstaff for Tokyo and LčElisir dčAmore for
Stockholm Royal Opera, all to be produced by Jonathan Miller, and The
Macropoulos Case, for Stockholm Royal Opera, produced by Knut Hendriksen.

She Lives in London with her daughter and husband.
